As this trend catches on, more medical coding work will be done in homes and medical coding will evolve to become more of a home based career – much like medical transcription is today. I justed want coders to understand the standard thought process that goes through a doctors head. The doc will understand what prodcedure (CPT code) the patient requires, the key to getting paid for the work is figuring out the correct ICD9 or HCPCS code to use. Using inexpensive software will "mate" these two types of codes, so that all work is covered by insurance and everyone gets paid. This mating process is call crosswalks and is simple to do, although most of the code finding software out there does not do this, I suggest you look at www.medicalcodesolutions.com, it performs this function as well as other easy to use tools that are helpful to any coder.
